LKM7003-X10 Exit Device

LKM7003 Rim Device Compatible with Combination Lock & Access Control with Key Override

The LKM7003 Series was designed to provide tiered levels of security while always providing single motion egress. This device is compatible with any high security combination lock meeting FF-L-2740-A, as well as a variety of access control devices. The LKM Lock Series' life safety and security features meet FF-L-2890. The combination lock represents the first level of security. The access control device represents the second level of security. The Key Override Module negates the access control device in the event of a power failure or malfunction.

Key Override Module: The LKM7003 is equipped with a Key Override Module, which allows entry without using an existing integrated access control device. However, it does not override the combination lock. This feature is particularly important in the event of a power outage, failure or malfunction of an access control device and other emergency situations when entry is a top priority. The LKM7003 with Key Override will work with any 1-1/8" diameter Rim Cylinder (sold separate, see "Companion Items" below).

LKM FAQ:

Q: What is the fire rating of the LKM7000 product line?
A: The current fire rating of the LKM7000 product is 90 minutes when installed with the stainless steel strikes that are now standard and a Kaba Mas X-10 lock or mechanical combination lock. The locks when installed with a Sargent & Greenleaf 2740 lock are not fire rated.

Q: What voltage or amperage is required for locks to use access control?
A: The locks work on 12- or 24-volt DC power and require only a .5 amp.

Q: Can these locks be used with an electric strike?
A: No, these locks cannot be used with an electric strike. All doors should be prepped for a raceway. The locks will require an electric hinge or an electric power transfer (EPT) to power the access control solenoid. For doors that are being retrofitted without a raceway an armored door loop or an external wire conduit of various types may be used. To just activate the solenoid and not use monitoring a two-wire device is needed but if all switches are being used then an 8-wire EPT or electric hinge is needed.

Q: What key cylinder is provided with the LKM7003 and LKM7006 locks?
A: No key cylinder or cores are provided with the key override LKM7000 locks. Please see "Companion Items" above for all cylinder options.

Q: What is the security role of the FF-L-2740 lock (i.e., X-10) or combination lock installed inside the LKM7000 product on the door? Can it be overridden by the key in the override?
A: The combination lock cannot be overridden by the key override. The combination lock must be in the open position for the key override or the access control device to work for access. The device is King of the door and is an independent lock within the lock. The warranty of the combinatino lock is a separate one from the LKM7000 product. The manufacturer warranty of the combination lock covers any failure of that device. You can use any standard combination lock. The X-10 is the most popular with the door hardware that must meet FF-L-2740A and FF-L-2890.

Q: What are the switches in the lock used for?
A: You can monitor whether the X-10 is open or closed. You can use the bolt switch for a request to exit and relay alarms, sirens, magnetic locks, and door assist devices off of that switch. Both switches are status switches and simply open or close. How your alarm or monitoring system interprets the change in movement is up to the setting of your equipment.

Q: How do I prep the door for LKM7000 product?
A: It is preferable that the lock is field-prepped by an installer with the LKM7000IFAC installation fixture. These locks are positioned on the door off the strike. The recommended placement of the lock is 43 inches AFF. However, placement between 41-44 inches AFF on the door will not affect the function of the lock and will keep all parts of the lock within the range of ADA. On hollow metal doors and wood veneer doors we recommend standoff kits LKM7000SOK1 for 1-3/4" doors or LKM7000SOK for 2-inch doors. There is also a 700013S01EXT, which allows the LKM7000, LKM7003, LKM7004 and LKM7006 to be used on doors with a thickness greater than 2-3/4".

Q: How can this lock be used on double door applications?
A: The inactive leaf must be fixed in place and locked securely before the lock is latched when a mullion is used. The active door must not slam against the inactive leaf strike or the lock's encapsulated strike will break.

Q: How can you convert an LKM7002 exit only lock to one of the other versions?
A: You cannot convert the LKM7002. You must replace it with one of the other locks.

Q: How can you convert the LKM7000 to an LKM70003 or an LKM7004 to an LKM7006?
A: If you add the key override module LKM7001 to a LKM7000/LKM7004 you can cover the lock to an LKM7003/LKM7006. The internal solenoid in the LKM7000/LKM7004 needs to be removed since the LKM7001 has a solenoid in it. The LKM7004 and LKM7006 have a removable metal cover that can be removed if an X-10 lock or other combination lock needs to be added to the door to make an LKM7000 or LKM7003 lock.

Q: What version of the X-10 lock should be used with the LKM7000 Product Line?
A: The LKM7000 Product Line uses the safe lock version of the X-10. Please do not specify a CDX-10 with any LKM7000 product. If a CDX-10 is currently being used on the door you can purchase an LKM7000CK10 kit to convert the lock to a regular X-10 so it can be reused inside of the LKM7000.

Q: What is the Key Override Module?
A: Standard on the LKM7003 and LKM7006 Lock, this module "overrides" the access control device with the turn of a key, but not the combination lock. This feature is particularly important during the event of a power outage, failure or malfunction of an access control device, or an emergency that requires expedited entry.

Q: What is the Lock Down Feature?
A: Ideal for controlling the flow of traffic through one door in areas with only one level of security and multiple entrances. Entrance is denied with a turn of a key without impending exit. The Lock Down Feature is comprised of a key cylinder installed into the Inside Base Plate. Standard on the LKM7004 & 7006, but available as a special order on other locks in the series.

LKM Features

The LKM7000 Series Locks provide both high security and life safety. The single motion egress feature of the LKM7000 Series Locks when integrated with a high security (FF-L-2740A) lock creates an FF-L-2890 compliant pedestrian door lock. The Series offers many lock device options from exit only to tiered levels on security.

Security Features

- Deadbolt: The FF-L-2890 specification requires a locking mechanism to use a deadbolt with a trip device that operates when the combination lock is in the locked position. The deadbolt automatically extends into the locked position as soon as it engages the strike.

- Encapsulated Strike: The LKM7000 Series Lock comes with a strike that surrounds the deadbolt for reinforced security.

- High Security Combination Lock Compatibility: The LKM7000 Series Lock is designed to work with any standard footprint combination lock (meaning FF-L-2470A), such as the Kaba Mas X-10 Series and the Sargent & Greenleaf 2740. No modification to the deadbolt is required.

- Access Control Device Compatibility: The LKM7000 Series Lock is compatible with a variety of electronic access control devices (12V or 24V DC - .5 amps). The series can be installed on doors with or without an EPT. The lock requires an EPT or electric hinge when used with access control.

- Tiered Levels of Security: When both a combination lock and access control device are installed with an LKM7000 Lock a series of security levels are created:

  • First Tier: Combination Lock
  • Second Tier: Access Control Device

- Example of Day Locking: The supervisor "unlocks/opens" the combination to allow staff to enter throughout the day by utilizing the access control device. The LKM7000 Series Lock's internal solenoid provides this managerial control. However, once the combination lock is "locked/closed" the access control device is negated.

- Bolt Monitoring & Request to Exit (REX): Standard in all  LKM7000 Locks but use is optional. When connected you have the ability to monitor the bolt position on both the LKM7000 Lock Series and combination lock. REX can be used to monitor bolt position or shunt the door alarm.

Safety Features

- Single Motion Egress: One simple push or pull of the ADA and UFSA compliant handle allows exit. No need for both hands to guarantee a safe exit. Federal Specification FF-L-2890 requires a "quick, safe exit in the case of an emergency".

- Key Override Module: Standard on the LKM7003 and LKM7006 Lock, this module "overrides" the access control device with the turn of a key, but not the combination lock. This feature is particularly important during the event of a power outage, failure or malfunction of an access control device, or an emergency that requires expedited entry.

- UL Fire Rating: The LKM7000 Series Lock has recieved 90-minute UL Listing (USA & Canada) when installed with a Kaba Mas X-10 combination lock. This rating is in accordance with the Standard, "Positive Pressure Fire Test of Door Assemblies," ANSI/UL 10C, UBC 7-2 (1997). Note: The 90-Minute rating does NOT apply when installed with an S&G 2740.

Additional Feature

- Lock Down Feature: Ideal for controlling the flow of traffic through one door in areas with only one level of security and multiple entrances. Entrance is denied with a turn of a key without impeding exit. The Lock Down Feature is comprised of a key cylinder installed into the Inside Base Plate. The Lock Down Feature is standard on the LKM7004 & LKM7006 but must be special ordered on all other LKM7000 Series Locks.
